Test Scope

Grade 5 First Semester Midterm Exam 

English Exam 

Date: Thursday, 30th October, Periods 1 & 2

 Grammar (40%)

Review Resources - For the grammar section of the test, students should review their Grammar quizzes, review worksheets and Enter the World of Grammar 2 textbook. The areas to be tested are:

1. Unit 1: Present Simple and Present Progressive p.4-10 

2. Unit 2 Future “Will” and “Be Going to” p.11-17 

3. Unit 3 Past Simple and Past Progressive p.18-24

4. Unit 4 Comparison of Adjectives p.25-39

Creative Writing (10%)

Students must write a 3-4 paragraph descriptive text. They will be given 2 topics to choose from. The introduction must include a hook and a thesis statement, and the body of the essay must include descriptions relating to the text and examples supporting the author’s point of view. The essay will be graded according to content, organization, grammar and creativity. (Students must not go over the word limit)  

Reading (30% Journey’s, 10% unseen)

Students are expected to read a short unseen passage and answer questions based on the text.  

Students are assessed on the following unit from Journeys, focusing on reading comprehension, spelling, and grammar.:

Short questions will be based on these texts.

Vocabulary (10%)

Review Resource: Vocabulary Quizzes / Language Handbook L1 – L7.

Students are assessed on vocabulary words from Lessons 1–7. A word bank is provided, and students choose the most suitable word to complete each question. 

Science and Math Exam

Date: Friday, 31st October, Periods 1 & 2

Science

Review Resources – My Pals are Here Science 5A 

1. Unit 1 The Respiratory System p.1-14

2. Unit 2 The Circulatory System p.15-26

3. Unit 3 Diseases and Injuries p.27-38

Students will answer questions based on concepts from the above three units. They will also be required to complete sentences with vocabulary provided in word banks.

Math

1. Chapter 1 Whole Numbers p.5-10

2. Chapter 2 Operation of Whole Numbers p.11- 30

Students should be able to work with whole numbers, apply the order of operations correctly, and solve related problems.

3. Chapter 3 Fractions and Mixed Numbers p.43 – 46

4. Chapter 4 Multiplication of Whole Numbers, Fractions and Mixed Number p.51-56

Students should understand the concepts of decimals and fractions. They must also be able to work with whole numbers, fractions and mixed numbers together.
