Grade 5 First Semester Final Exam

English Exam

Date: Thursday, 26^th December, Periods 1 & 2

40% Grammar:

Review Resources - For the grammar section of the test, students should review their Grammar quizzes, review worksheets and Enter the World of Grammar 2 textbook. The areas to be tested are:

1.      Unit 5: Adverbs – Comparison of Adverbs p.33-39

2.      Unit 6 Question Words – Subject / Object Questions p.40-45

3.      Unit 7 Nouns – Some / Any / No / Every / One / Ones p.46-52

4.      Unit 8 Present Perfect Simple p.59-64

5.      Unit 9 Past Simple - Present Perfect Simple p. 65-69

20% Creative Writing:

Students must write a 3-4 paragraph persuasive text. They will be given 2 topics to choose from. The introduction must include a hook and a thesis statement, and the body of the essay must include reasons and descriptions relating to the text and examples supporting the author’s point of view. The essay will be graded according to content, organization, grammar and creativity. (Students must not go over the word limit) 

30% Reading:

Students will read a short passage and answer questions based on the text. Students will be graded on comprehension skills, spelling and grammar. Students will also be tested on

Lesson 8: Oil Spill in Alaska,

Lesson 9: The Rescue Helicopter Team,

Lesson 10: Bison Come Back to the Plains,

Lesson 11: The Story of Bunker’s Cover,

Lesson 12: No Tea for Me,

Lesson 13: Women of the American Revolution,

Lesson 14: Nero Hawley’s Dream, and

Lesson 15: The Carpenter and the Drummer Boy.

Short questions will be based on these texts.

10% Vocabulary:

Review Resource: Vocabulary Quizzes / Language Handbook L8, - L15.

Students will be tested on a selection of vocabulary words taught from L8-L15. A word bank will be provided from which students choose a suitable word to complete sentences.

 

Science and Math Exam

Date: Friday, 27^th December, Periods 1 & 2

Science

Review Resources – My Pals are Here Science Book 5A

1.      Unit 4 Cell and Their Functions p.39-46

2.      Unit 5 Invertebrates p.47-60

3.      Unit 6 Photosynthesis p.61-66

Students will answer questions based on concepts from the above two units. They will also be required to complete sentences with vocabulary provided in word banks.

Chapter 5 Triangle and Four- Sided Figures

1.      Lesson 1: Angle Measures of a Triangle p.99-104

2.      Lesson 2: Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles p. 105-109

3.      Lesson 4: Four-sided Figures p.114-120  

Students need to be familiar with isosceles and equilateral triangles, and four-sided figures and able to solve unknown angles in triangles and four-side figures.

Chapter 3 Fractions                                                                     

4.      Lesson 1: Fractions and Division. p.51-55

5.      Lesson 2: Addition and Subtraction of Unlike Fractions p.56-60

6.      Lesson 3: Addition and Subtraction of Mixed Numbers. p.61-67

7.      Lesson 4: Product of Fractions and Mixed Numbers p.68-74

8.      Lesson 5: Division of Fractions by Whole Numbers p.75-77

9.      Lesson 6: Division of Whole Numbers by Fractions p. 78-80

10.  Lesson 7: Problem Solving p. 81-89

Students need to be familiar with working with fractions and solving problems involving fractions.
